Madan Oak is a disciple of the world-renowned Santoor Maestro Padma Vibhushan Pandit Shivkumar Sharma. He has been studying Indian classical music for over 25 years. He has won several college and University level awards in classical music competitions. Madan is a recipient of the 1986 All India Radio (AIR) Best Instrumentalist National award and has performed on the AIR Pune Radio Station on several occasions.

Smt. Ashwini Khaparde was initiated in to music by her father, Shri. Shashikant Thombre at tender age of 5. Subsequently, she learnt from the eminent Dr Usha Parkhi of the Kirana gharana for 8 years. She has continued to learn from Smt. Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande, a leading performer of the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana. Ashwini combines the two gharanas easily and melodiously and presents compositions bringing out the best of both the gharanas. Apart from Bandish Gayaki, Ashwini’s large repertoire includes semi-classical forms like Thumari, Dadara, Tappa, Hori, Kajari etc. Marathi Natya Sangeet is her another speciality.

 Shubhangi Sakhalkar, an outstanding vocalist from the Bay Area, brings a brilliant pedigree to her music. After her early tutelage with Smt. Kunda Vaishampayan, she spent several years learning from the renowned artistes Dr. Prabha Atre and Smt. Padma Talwalkar. Shubhangi has brought her own ardent riyaaz, creative imagination, and keen intellect to bear upon her art. She hasdeveloped a dynamic yet thoughtful vocal style that remains rooted in tradition while being uniquely her own. Shubhangi has performed all over the United States as well as in India.

Mitali Banerjee Bhawmik  is an outstanding  exponent of Hindustani vocal music excelling in Khayal singing as well as the light classical forms. She started her initial lessons in music at a very early age from Sri Ajit Dutta nd later  receiving extensive training from Sri Biren Phukan in Guahati, Assam. Mitali came to Calcutta in 1983 where she initially received lessons from Srimati Meera Banerjee, the noted vocalist. After  1984 Mitali  became a student of the late  Padmabhushan Pandit V. G. Jog.   Pandit Jog's vast and extensive experience in the different musical styles and traditions helped Mitali to blend the best of few Gharanas in her music Mitali also receiving training in semi- classical music from Smt. Dahlia Rahut, a senior disciple of Smt. Girija Devi.
Mitali’s music has been featured in the film The Namesake.

Basant Bahar is pleased to start the 2010 concert year with this superb  performer.

 

Prasad Bhandarkar

 

Prasad Bhandarkar, a fine bansuri player from the bay area,  started learning Hindustani music when he was 8 years old.  Initiated into classical music by his mother, he started learning bansuri flute from Shri Anantrao Patwardhan of Mumbai. In 1990, he was fortunate to become student of Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia. In recent years, Prasad has been learning music from the noted Sitar player of Maihar Gharana, Pandit Partha Chatterjee who is one of the prominent disciples of the late Pandit Nikhil Banerjee. Prasad also gratefully acknowledges the contribution to his musical development by Shri Deepak Ram  who is senior disciple of Pt Chaurasia,  and Prasad's friends from his music group in the Bay Area. An Engineer by profession Prasad  has been performing in claasical as well as light classical concerts. He teaches Bansuri and hosts bansuriflute.com  with information for beginners.

Nov 15 : Smt. Suchisree Ray - Vocal

Concert with Sandipan

Sandipan Samajpati has received extensive taleem in the Kirana style of gayaki for about two decades from Pandit Manas Chakraborty. In recent times he has also received guidance from Pandit Rama Ashrey Jha of the Gwalior gharana. Since his debut performance at the age of sixteen, Sandipan has, over the years, been performing in a number of prestigious and reputed music conferences throughout India and abroad.
